Clean Sweep 1992 – laying the pipe out to sea

Posted on Jun 9, 2014 by in SWW | 0 comments

In the 1990’s South West Water carried out a multi- million pound program to upgrade the sewage systems and improve the bathing water quality of many west country towns; in 1992, it was Bude’s turn. The works constituted one of the most extensive civil engineering works in the town in recent years, affecting several areas in major works and employing the manpower of several hundred men, as well as many vehicles and ships. This pic shows the laying the pipeline, once it was all joined together, and extended through the breakwater, out to sea in a prepared trench. This was one of the last stages of the work which, as a whole, took many months.
